03/01/2003: A meeting house - the Marae - of the Maori. Every (sub-)tribe has one of these where the tribe gathers on special occasions. The house is beautifully covered with carvings and paintings, they play an important role in the Maori traditions. In these houses not only the living members of the family meet but also the ancestors.

02/28/2003: In earlier times only the Kiwi on two legs was known in New Zealand. Nowadays the fruit with the same name is of bigger economic importance!

02/24/2003: Chinese Art in New Zealand: the making of ice-sculptures is an special art in China and now for the first time on display in Auckland. A hall, cooled down to sub-zero temperatures contains many sculptures, up to 4 metres high!

02/23/2003: The people of the Maori - fist settlers to New Zealand - are an important group in this country and their culture is well alive. To get a first impression of that we visit a cultural demonstration in the National Museum at Auckland.

02/22/2003: No sailing without wind! Unluckily we did not see the boats racing, but we saw them in the harbour: to the left Team New Zealand and to the right Team Alinghi, challenger at the America's Cup.
