In the north-western corner of New South Wales drive through the first red sand of the Australian desert.

05/04/2003: Close to Molong is the grave of Yuranigh, an Aborigine, who gained a lot of respect from Europeans as well as from Aborigines during the 19th century. He lead many explorations of the surveyor-general Mitchell (at about 1840) through the Outback and often had to negotiate between the European discoverers and Aboriginal tribes. After his death, Major Mitchell organised an european-style tomb for his grave, aboriginal people set up an traditional grave for him: surrounding his grave five trees have been carved with traditional patterns. Four of these trees are still standing, one of them dead and preserved to keep the carvings visible.
