05/15/2003: Well known in whole Australia: the "Big Red", probably the highest Dune of the Simspon Desert and at the same time the "gate" to that vast desert.

05/15/2003: The Royal Hotel in Birdsville had been trough better times. It was built in 1883 and served from 1923 on as a hospital.

05/13/2003: Pelicans also like the desert. A small river is an often enjoyed destination for them.

05/11/2003: We thought we had many flies in Western Australia, but now we know that this was just the beginning! Here in the Outback we don't smile about our fly-nets, we smile because of them!

05/11/2003: On a walk through the "Innamicka Regional Reserve" we discover these Aboriginal rock engravings. Sadly today nobody knows what they mean or when they were engraved.

05/10/2003: Shrimps in the desert!
These nice little creatures ("shield shrimps") did inspire many producers of Science Fictions. They are about the first living things that come to life after rain on the muddy grounds.

05/10/2003: After a long time wild animals! These two Emus were happy to find some water in the middle of the road.

05/10/2003: Right in the desert these little parrots fly from one dry tree to the other.
