09/06/2003: A demonstration of the Seni Silat - the Malaysian martial art - might be an appropriate entertainment for a wedding. This sport is very traditional in Terengganu and Kelantan.

09/04/2003: Aerial view of the market in Kuala Terengganu, capital of the state with the same name. This small harbour-town at the mouth of the river Terengganu had a economic boom after the discovering of oil and gas off its shores.

09/04/2003: Unfortunately we did not see them in nature, so we had to transform ourselves into turtles! The coast at Rantau Abang in the south of Terengganu is one of the few areas in the world where four different species of sea-turtles come to shore to lay their eggs at the beach. Despite many attempts of WWF and other organisations, the biggest threat to their survival is man. Only one of 5,000 baby turtles survive up to the age of mating, but still many eggs are eaten by men. At almost every market we saw the soft-shelled turtle eggs for sale - much more often than we saw the turtles for which we waited during the night at the beach ...

09/03/2003: A camp the way we like it: At the beach under the coconut palms!

08/31/2003: In the Genting Highlands we are above the clouds to view the impressive sunset.
|
08/31/2003: We climb (with the car) the mountains to reach Genting at about 1,500 metres height. Here we are not only surprised by the climate (wind and rain at 10°C) but also by the "town": an accumulation of luxury hotels, theme parks and casinos. The latest attraction: a snowy landscape like in the European Alps. We nearly forget that we re in Malaysia!

08/31/2003: In the news for the first time! In the New Sunday Times, the most important English-speaking newspaper of Malaysia, we find an article about us and our trip on the national day.
