Without car we decide to travel to the Lesotho, a small (about 30,000 km² wide) independent country completely surrounded by South Africa, on the top of the Drakensberg mountains. We find ourselves a transport through the famous Sani Pass into the "Kingdom in the sky".
Once we arrived on top of the mountains, we settle in a small lodge without electricity and are happy to be so close to the full moon. The next day we hire two horses to carry us over the mountains and through the rivers right into the heart of the country. We spend the following night in a tiny little village and enjoy the overwhelming hospitality of the Basotho, the people living in that harsh area. Also the ride back to our tent the next day convinces us of the unique beauty of that tiny country.

We are back in Durban: the car is leaving for Australia!
We spend three days vacuum-cleaning and polishing the car. The Australian Customs is very strict and we have to steam-clean the chassis and motor.
Finally it is ready for shipping, the car has never been so clean! We drive it in the container and say good-bye. The next day, the container will be loaded onto the ship and we hope to meet again in 25 days in Fremantle, Western Australia.
We don't like to say goodbye and are not very happy with the idea of backpacking the next four weeks!

11/08/2002:
We spend one week along the coast, south of Durban. One beach after another: Sunshine Coast, Hibiscus Coast... We stop for a dive in Umkomaas - the famous reef of Aliwal Shoal is there - then we go further south to Port St. Johns, Coffee Bay and "Hole in the Wall".
We also spend time discovering the countryside, far from the tourist-beaches: the Transkei was a homeland in the apartheid period. Until now only black Africans are living here in a traditional way. Nelson Mandela also grew up in this area.

11/04/2002:
We leave Nelspruit and head to the South. On our way, we cross Swaziland once again. We love this small country, lost between South Africa's borders. Our goal is Durban, but this time we won't take time there to visit the city. We will be there to organise the shipping of our car to Australia. Yes, our journey in Africa slowly comes to the end...

10/28/2002:
We spend one week in Nelspruit with Angela, Hansjörgs sister. We relax a little bit ... and prepare our next update of the website. Finally we can tell you everything about our adventures of the last weeks.

We want to see what impresses all the tourists!
For three days we cross through the Kruger National Park from 5 am to 6 pm. We even manage to see the "Big Five" within one day! We do not see all of them, but the amount of game in this park is really astonishing! For example there are living about 10,000 small and huge elephants here! And if you want to see some more animals, click here.
